Recently I was reflecting on reading the bible as it were a love letter from God. As someone put it, the value of a love letter is not so much the letter itself as it is the character of the person who is writing it. Similar to lyrics to of a song, love letters can make something inside of you come alive.
The thing about love letters to me is that you never get tired of reading it. Someone sends you a letter, and you can read it a hundred times over and still love reading it. You may read it a different way, different pace, different tone. You will leave it but go back to it later and read it again.
I spent a good part of summer studying the book of Ephesians and really enjoyed studying the text word for word. Last night someone read a portion of a chapter from Ephesians and I absolutely loved it. I've read it so many times before but, like a love letter, I am captivated by the words because of the one who inspired their writing. To suggest that the bible is one big love letter from God would not be a stretch. It is a narrative that explains so much in my own life.
I read a blog recently whose author penned, The more I Know Him, the more it (fixation with Jesus) seems normal to me. I can identify with that sentiment. We read a love letter because we desire the one who wrote it. So, reading the bible is one way of getting closer to God. It's his love letter to us!
What is something you've read lately that put a smile on your face?
