on worship

Waiting for eager students to come register for the upcoming Yes You Can leadership conference, I pulled out my laptop to do some study notes with itunes playing in the back.

I purchased a CD titled Heart of Worship at Value Village about a year ago and absolutely love it. Listening to some of the songs as I waited and worked put my mind more on God. The songs really speak about the heart of worship. In my relationship with God these songs give words that my spirit yearn to express. Which is the inspiration for this post, actually.

I've heard it said before that the choice or preference in worship songs often varies between men women. Women sing songs that have the imagery of love, protection, beauty. Men liken songs that describe God as warrior: mighty, strong, conqueror. Perhaps the songs one listens to mirrors their view of who God is to them.

Songs have a way of elevating the desires of the heart; gives words to emotion. It's so easy to just let songs play in the background, but when you let the words sink knowing full well how accurately it describes your relationship with God (at least for me), it's a good sensation coming from the heart. The heart of worship, connecting with God's heart.
